Newcastle United today unveiled the club’s PUMA home kit for the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season LIVE on Sky Sports News today as part of the broadcaster’s 92Live tour.
The shirt is available to pre-order from today and supporters will get their first chance to wear it when it hits club stores on Thursday 22Newcastle United v West Ham United. It will be the first time that the new club sponsor Wonga.com will appear on the famous black and white stripes.
PUMA has been supplying the club with official technical and replica kit and training wear since 2010. The Magpies’ 2013/14 home kit is inspired by the Sportslifestyle brand’s Spirit product line and features all of the technological excellence expected from a PUMA kit, including Dry Cell technology for improved player performance.
Dry Cell technology enhances body performance by dragging moisture away from the body, improving air-flow and keeping the body at the ultimate performance temperature. Meanwhile, the four-way stretch underarm panel, cuffs, and back meshoffer the same freedom of movement as the match kit.
Stuart Middlemiss, head of retail at Newcastle United, said: “Creating a design which is new and different while staying faithful to the club’s iconic black and white stripes is a challenge but PUMA have done an excellent job. The new home kit design and feel has been well received by the players and I’m sure supporters will enjoy wearing it.”
Ruth How, head of marketing, PUMA UKIB, added: “The black and white stripes of the Newcastle United home shirt ensure its status as one of the most iconic shirts in club football. Our challenge was to celebrate the rich history of this great club and use all of our apparel knowledge and innovation to enhance player performance on the pitch.”
Darryl Bowman, marketing director of club sponsors, Wonga.com, said: “It is another proud moment for the company to see the Wonga brand unveiled on one of the most famous football strips in the world. After all the waiting since we agreed the sponsorship we now can’t wait for the season to start and see the team in action taking on the rest of the Premier League.”
