With the game looking like it was going to end with a victory to Steaua Bucharest, Wanderson sublimely volleyed from a clearance from one of the Bucharest players and the ball ended up in the back of the net.
This goal levelled the tie over two games and took the game into extra time. Ludogorets managed to keep their cool until the final minute of extra time when the Ludogorets goalkeeper Vladislav Stoyanov was sent off for a challenge on Fernando Varela. With all the substitutes used Cosmin Moti stepped up to be keeper as the whistle blew for the end of extra time and the game moved into penalties.
Moti, centre-back for Ludogorets when doing his normal day job (and who spent most of his playing career at Steaua’s rivals Dinamo Bucharest), stepped up to take the first penalty and scored, then moved back in net for the remainder of the shoot-out, subsequently saving two Steaua Bucharest penalties and putting Ludogorets through to the Champions League group stages for the first time ever.
