The term ‘Mickey Mouse Cup’ has been used over and over again by football fans up and down the country by those wishing to brush their teams sub par performances under the carpet in a competition they pretend they’d rather not be in anymore.
Mickey Mouse has turned the other cheek for decades and let it slip, but the latest abject performance by Manchester United has tipped Mickey over the edge. We managed to catch up with him just before he went on one of his many photo shoots with some children at Disneyland Paris today. Here’s what he had to say.
“I can’t take it any more” says Mickey, “It’s just not fair. That defeat last night for Manchester United was the last straw in a long line of last straws. I don’t want to be associated with failure anymore. I’ve worked hard for over 90 years to keep my name in good standing but I’m most synonymous with English football. Why not a Donald Duck cup? Goofy cup? Popeye cup?”
We then pressed a little further. “Four nil! MK Dons. Just ridiculous” Mickey muttered, “The normal fans will point to poor squad choice and be disappointed that they are out of another cup but most, they’ll be going to work today exclaiming IT’S JUST A MICKEY MOUSE CUP. Not the Capital One Cup – a company that pays tens of millions of pounds to sponsor the name, but the MICKEY MOUSE CUP. I’ve had it. I’ve had enough”
We took a short break here as Mickey was getting a bit weary. He went off to his trailer to grab a glass of water and some tissues and then came back. We then asked Mickey Mouse what he plans to do next.
“It’s simple”, he replied, “I don’t want to take the gloss of the fantastic MK Dons victory. Will Grigg and Benik Afobe should be very proud of themselves as should the whole MK Dons team, but I’ve instructed my solicitors to trawl the internet and locate any reference from fans regarding the Mickey Mouse Cup. From there, my solicitors will be contacting each person involved and we will be suing them for breach of copyright. That’ll teach them!”
Mickey Mouse Cup indeed!
