Nemanja Vidic, making his debut for Inter Milan against Torino as Serie A kicked off, managed to get a straight red card. For what I hear you ask – well, for those that haven’t read the blatant header at the top of the page – I’ll tell you.
Nemanja Vidic got a straight red card for applauding the referee. Yup, thats right. Not for a bad tackle, or for fouling the last man when clean through on goal, or for spitting, racism or for calling the referee a cunt or some other unsavoury word (not that I can work out with my lip reading skills anyway) but for applauding the referee.
I’m all for punishing dissent, but I think that a straight red for this is a little harsh when far worse things are said / done to referee’s are on a regular basis on a football pitch – or am I missing something here?
