There’s no love lost when Galatasaray play Fenerbache, whether it be fans or the players on the pitch. This game is no different – particularly with livewire Volkan Demirel involved.
The teams met in the Turkish Super Cup, in what was an eventful 0 – 0 draw that went to penalties. The entertainment was supplied by fans, throwing plastic bottles and firecrackers onto the pitch and at one stage, Fernando Muslera, the Galatasaray goalkeeper went to the opposite end of the pitch to calm down his teams fans.
The game went through extra time at 0 – 0 too, and then onto penalties, where Fenerbache were crowned Turkish Super Cup champions after winning 3 – 2.
In the incident shown below, Felipe Melo steps up to take a penalty against Volkan Demirel and puts it over the bar. Demirel subsequently does what we Premier League fans call “a Keown” but with a little less spittle and a little more anger and contact.
Both players get booked for the mele, despite Felipe Melo hardly reacting to Volkan Demirels antics.
