Diego Simeone is a very animated person, so much so that sometimes it tends to get him in trouble. In the Supercopa second leg yesterday, this animation got Simeone a red card.
After remonstrating with everybody who would listen that his players were unfairly being yellow carded here, there and everywhere, Diego Simeone tapped one of the officials on the back of the head a couple of times. This resulted in him being red carded.
I don’t disagree with the sending off – you are the leader of a team of players, and you should be showing restraint in high pressure situations and setting an example to the children running around on the field earning upwards of £100k a week, but when you consider that THIS challenge by Cristiano Ronaldo on Diego Godin garnered no booking whatsoever, then you have to feel a little sorry for Diego Simeone.
Fortunately for Simeone, Atletico went on to win the game 1-0 and 2-1 on aggregate to lift the Supercopa. Who’s your tip for the La Liga title this season?
