Liverpool continued their unbeaten run in the Guinness International Champions Cup with a 2 – 0 win over AC Milan, leaving them topping Group B and having an identical set of stats to Group A winners Manchester United: played 3, won 3, lost 0, goals for 6, goals against 3, goal difference 3 and points 8.
Liverpool went ahead on 17 minutes with Joe Allen scoring after intially hitting the post – his rebound went to Raheem Sterling who’s shot was blocked and landed at Joe Allens feet, who this time sidefooted it past a couple of Milan defenders and into the net. Rickie Lambert then had a chance to make it 2 – 0 in the first half after a challenge on Raheem sterling in the 27th minute but Lambert, who hadn’t missed a penalty since joining Southampton, has his shot saved by the Milan keeper. It then took until the 89th minute for Liverpool to score again with Suso scoring from 20 yards out with a wonderful finish.
The final will be played on August the 4th at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami.
(1-0) Joe Allen 17′
