The Goal Of The Week results are in!
After a flurry of activity in the closing stages of the poll I expected the gap to close on the early leader as more people responded to the post and more people voted for their favourite goal, or, as these polls tend to show, any other goal that wasn’t scored by one of their rivals.
The nominees this week were Willians left footed, top right hand corner screamer, Adnan Junazajs lovely left footed volley into the bottom right, Loic Remys shot into the bottom left hand corner afterrunning past a few defenders, Remys second where he latched onto a save by the keeper and rounded it past two defenders or the Daniel Sturridge goal with his stinging left foot shot across the face of the Palace goal.
These events are watched closely by bookmakers such as bwin as people religiously put bets on their team and their forwards. Whether it be a goals scored bet, number of corners conceded or my favourite – a hatrick scored by anyone in the game (always worth a fiver).
I refrained from putting Ravel Morrisons goal against Tottenham in the mix despite what seems like some nonsensical press brainwashing the masses, as it didn’t seem that special to me personally.
“Wonder strike”, “stunner” and “genius” kind of take it a little bit too far, and am positive, if you look through the 162 goals that have been scored in the Premier League so far (all available by clicking the links under PL Goals 2013 / 2014) you’ll find many more goals much better than this one including some proper wonder strikes and stunners scored by genius.
After numerous tweets and facebook posts about the goals, the results are in and am pleased to announce the winner as Daniel Sturridge – who scored a lovely left foot goal after taking on the defender in the box and striking it across the face of goal into the bottom right hand corner with his left foot.
This also means that Sturridge has now scored a whopping 19 goals in 24 games and is not far behind his strike partner who’s scored 19 in 22.
Talking of his strike partner – skill of the week goes to Luis Suarez who does a rabona nutmeg on a Crystal Palace player!
